Philosophy Statement

I believe pregnancy, birth and breastfeeding are normal functions of a woman’s body and spirit.  I do not “deliver babies”.  I assist and guide women as they birth their babies, nurturing their sense of personal strength and self-confidence, helping them to realize birth as an empowering right of passage in their lives.  I believe that women who have birthed babies of their own are best suited to assist other women during childbirth.  

Throughout most of the world, midwives attend women during childbirth at home.  Birth at home in familiar and comfortable surroundings, encircled by only family and close friends, and assisted by skilled attendants, can provide an optimal environment for most women. 

A skilled pair of hands and continuous, strong labor support surpasses medication in the relief of the discomforts of childbirth.  As a midwife, I am completely committed to serving women and their families in birthing as they choose.
