The Birth Suite

We are pleased to announce the opening of The Birth Suite, a private birth room and large bath including walk-in shower and Jacuzzi tub, and laundry.

Not all women are comfortable birthing in their own homes for many reasons, but still desire an out-of-hospital birth with little intervention. Maybe you live in a small apartment, or are concerned about "thin" walls and the noise level during a birth. Maybe your home is always busy, lots of people in and out creating a hectic atmosphere. Maybe you are not yet confident in attempting a home birth, and would feel safer in a more structured atmosphere close to ambulance service, interstate highway, and 15 minutes to the local hospital. We invite you to visit for a tour of our newly constructed facility at 778 College Ave. in Old Town.

For women choosing to birth in The Birth Suite, all prenatal care will be done in the suite as available. Over your prenatal period, you will be accustomed to the peaceful atmosphere of this space, becoming familiar and comfortable here as if your own by the birth day. Feel free to bring your favorite blanket or pillow, or other personal items.

On the birth day, we invite families to enjoy the large, open sitting area. Admire our nine acres and horse farm from the wrap-around deck area, or take a hike on the University of Maine trails across the street and out our back door. Sit by the woodstove, or take a nap on our comfortable couches. Bring your favorite food to reheat and share in our modern kitchen.

Women giving birth in The Birth Suite have the option of staying for 4 hours after the birth, or may stay overnight for births that take place in the evening or during the nighttime hours.
